When Faith Increases

2 Corinthians 10:2 KJV
But I beseech you, that I may not be bold when I am present with that confidence, wherewith I think to be bold against some, which think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.

This whole chapter is taken up with the subject of authority. Paul's appeal is that the believers would respond to his authority by faith and not because of any exercise of it.
  • He expresses an unwillingness to demonstrate that authority when present
  • He describes his authority as being supernatural and not carnal
  • He implies that he has demonstrated that authority in times past (Elymus the sorcerer as an example)
  • He diverts their attention to the need for ministry that expands beyond them
Those regions beyond were Spain and France and England, places that continue to change the world once the Gospel reached them.

The cause of Christ is to great to get caught up in challenges about who has control. Souls need to be reached. When the faith of a congregation increases then the ministry of the preacher enlarges.
