1 Peter 2:1 KJV
Wherefore
laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all
evil speakings,
I was
struck by the bluntness of this as a first verse, which reminds me that no passage
is left to itself but is part of a whole. This verse is clearly tied to and
dependent upon chapter one.
But at
the same time, beginning here makes an impression. It serves to point out how
important laying aside our sin is. It makes neither excuse nor gives some
drawn-out process. We are bluntly told to put these aside
- Malice
- Guile
- Hypocrisies
- Envies
- Evil speakings
No time
to slowly fade them out. No program to help us overcome. Just a matter if fact
message; lay them aside.
- Not some of them.
- Not the worst of them
- All of them
Here is a
recovery program that will work.
- Get real with God
- Get honest with our sin
- Get busy laying them aside
