Genesis 44:12 KJV
And he searched, and began at the eldest, and
left at the youngest: and the cup was found in Benjamin's sack.
I was thinking today of how much Jacob loved Benjamin and how terribly
Benjamin's tribe turned out to be. Especially in the situation with the abused
concubines.
No human being is better than another so every human being ought to be
treated with the same care and equal respect. However, upon no human being
should we place our hopes with the exception of Jesus Christ. Jacob placed far
too much of his emotional well being on Benjamin. The youngest son of his
beloved wife, and as far as he knew the only remaining son of his beloved,
Benjamin was still no one to place his hopes in. Though God had made promises
to Jacob that included his children, his children were not the answer to God's
promise; Abraham learned that.
If we will faithfully raise our children in the nurture and admonition
of The Lord and at the same time place our
- Faith,
- Hopes and
- Aspirations
in The Lord and His promises instead of our children we will be much
happier and our children will be raised much better.
