Sin Swept

Matthew 27:3 KJV
Then Judas, which had betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought again the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders,

The first of those Messianic prophecies to be fulfilled was that of
  • The betrayal of Judas
  • His selling of Christ for thirty pieces of silver
  • Their purchasing the potters field with the money and of
  • Judas' death
Here is a man whose sin carries further than he dreamed it would go and whose consequence could not be reversed.

Each of us needs to consider the account of Judas. He did something that even repenting of could not change. He set in motion a series of events he
  • Could not have expected
  • Did not wish to see happen but
  • Could in no way stop
Though he started it, he was not in control of it and he has swept away in it.

Judas could never have prevented what his sin has begun but he could have seen a much better end to his own life. To take his life as he did indicates that he missed the message of Christ; one of hope and restoration.  He, as did Peter who denied Christ and the thief who died beside Christ, could have experienced forgiveness and restoration.

  • May many of those today who are swept away in sin repent
  • May they see the dangers of their choices while there is still opportunity to reverse them and, should their sin carry them where they would never have dreamed they would go
  • May they behold the hope that is in Christ rather than the despair that is in the world
