Luke 7:50 KJV
And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saved
thee; go in peace.
Not a word is
written of anything she said but only of what she did, and Jesus said her faith
had saved her.
We have made a
whole system designed around what has been spoken; in order to be saved we must
say a prayer. I know an evangelist who trusted Christ without ever repeating
the sinner's prayer, who has said that some people don't believe he is saved
because of it. But in this woman's case, her faith was demonstrated not by what
she said but by what she did. This demonstrates a biblical principle found all
through the Word of God; faith is an action word. True faith is not expressed
by the mouth. It is demonstrated in our actions.
This is not to
say that we are saved by our actions. No, we are saved by grace through faith.
But faith always acts. Faith always changes our actions to match our heart's
convictions.
