Never Put People First

Numbers 28:2 KJV
Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.

There are five times in this one verse that reference is made to God's possession in matters spiritual
  • My offering
  • My bread
  • My sacrifice
  • Sweet savor unto me
  • Offer unto me

We must never lose sight of the fact that the faith is about God.
  • It is not about loving people
  • It is not about ministering to people
  • It is not about helping people
This is the mistake of every religious organization; they put people first.

The faith is about God. We must put Him first. When we do that, the by-product will be love of people, ministering to people and helping people because God loves people. But it must be the by-product or our care will become corrupted. The burden to help people will so overwhelm that God will be set aside and any means available to do what we think will help people, right or not, will be picked up.

Isn't this what we see in government? Our nation's founders had at their heart the core desire to build a republic "of the people, by the people and for the people." They wanted to help people. Many of them saw the value of the Christian faith, but for the most part, they saw it as a means to help people. Now Washington is filled with every sort of corruption imaginable; all ostensibly there to help people.
  • The democrats want to help people
  • The republicans want to help people
  • The liberals want to help people
  • The conservatives want to help people
The problem is that without a guide to regulate what is a help, they all just write their own rule book. They argue and debate over what really is helpful because they really don't know.

God has a different plan. He really does know what would be good for people. If we will love Him with all our heart and soul and mind loving our neighbor will be much easier.
