They Sure Can Hold a Grudge!

Acts 25:2-3 KJV
Then the high priest and the chief of the Jews informed him against Paul, and besought him,
And desired favour against him, that he would send for him to Jerusalem, laying wait in the way to kill him.

I am impressed with how long the Jews held their grudge against Paul.
  • Felix had kept him bound two years
  • By this time Felix is replaced
  • Who knows where Lysias has been assigned?
  • The Jews from Asia are certainly not nearby
The fact is that none of Paul's original accusers were even available.
  • But still, the chief priests wanted Paul dead so badly that it is their first order of business with Festus
  • And still, there are liers in wait ready to assassinate Paul
After two years their fury with Paul has assuaged none. This man who cared so deeply for the Jews that he said he could wish himself accursed for them is so hated by them that they refuse to be pacified with anything less than his demise.

The evil heart of the world against Christ's followers can be nothing less than satanically inspired.
  • Nothing else explains their hatred
  • Nothing else explains the lengths by which they will go to destroy the faith
Nothing but the promises of God can sustain the people of God in this evil world. And nothing but the return of Christ can change the downward course of this world.
