Psalms 98:8-9 KJV
Let the floods clap their hands: let the hills
be joyful together
Before the LORD; for he cometh to judge the
earth: with righteousness shall he judge the world, and the people with equity.
The Psalmist enlists his readers, but not them alone, indeed all of
creation:
- The seas
- The floods and
- The hills
to sing and rejoice in this truth; that the Lord comes to judge the
earth.
We (I mean mankind in general) tend to view that message in a more negative
light; that's because we tend to want to protect the sin nature of man. We see
ourselves in an adversarial role against the coming of the Lord. We want to
prevent it or at least change the circumstances so that, when and if He comes,
there is no judgment necessary. Thus:
- The evolutionist denies there is a God
- The liberal denies He will come literally and
- The religionist wants to make the world good
before He gets here
A more Biblical approach would be to:
- Accept the literal return of Christ
- Acknowledge the righteousness of His judgment
when He comes
- Trust the outcome to be wholly good
Faith in God's goodness leads to joy in God's judgment.
