Proverbs 9:9 KJV
Give
instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he
will increase in learning.
A mark of wisdom is the desire to learn more. People in the field of
science, for instance, devote their lives to learning new things:
- About medicine
- About animals
- About the laws of nature
and etc
The mark of the
just man is exactly the same with this one proviso; he maintains that all
wisdom begins with the fear of God.
The Christian
should never be tired of growth in the spiritual graces or in the understanding
of God's role in human history and growth. He should see each new advance in
learning not as a challenge to the existence of God but as a gift given him by
God. His faith in God is meant to sustain him despite the attacks of the lost who
use learning to build up their own god complex.
Christians must not
shrink into the shadows of old school mentality[1]
but push into the forefront of learning for God's glory.
[1]
By this I do not mean that we move from the old paths of our faith and practice
but that we not fear the advancements in learning threaten those old paths.
