Liberty in Captivity

Jeremiah 33:7-9 KJV
And I will cause the captivity of Judah and the captivity of Israel to return, and will build them, as at the first.
And I will cleanse them from all their iniquity, whereby they have sinned against me; and I will pardon all their iniquities, whereby they have sinned, and whereby they have transgressed against me.
And it shall be to me a name of joy, a praise and an honour before all the nations of the earth, which shall hear all the good that I do unto them: and they shall fear and tremble for all the goodness and for all the prosperity that I procure unto it.

There is a kind of captivity that makes for true liberty and joy. But there is a kind of liberty that tends only to misery and despair. Genuine liberty can only be known through obedience (or submission) to the Lord Jesus Christ.
  • To belong to the Lord is to be free indeed. To be free of the Lord is to be enslaved by the Devil.
  • To be yielded to righteousness yields joy and praise and honor and good. To be yielded to unrighteousness brings only the fruits of shame and sorrow and disrepute in the world.
  • To be bought of the Lord is to be set free eternally. To be the possession of the world the flesh and the devil is to be destined to hellish bonds forever.
