For the Truth's Sake

2 John 1:1-2
The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;
For the truth's sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

John's love for the elect lady and her children was "in the truth" and "for the truth's sake"[1]
·       It was only their position in the truth that he mentioned.
·       It is only their position in the truth that bore any matter of significance to him.

It becomes the Christian to focus his or her priorities "for the truth's sake."
·       Whom we love
·       With whom we have to
·       What motivates our most fervent affections
should always be analyzed "for the truth's sake".

In the end, nothing else will matter.
·       The great emperors of history
·       The great discoveries of explorers
·       The great inventions of mankind
·       The great conquests of militaries
·       The great successes of entrepreneurs
None of these are of any matter to these men at there death and none of them will bear any significance in eternity. Only what was done for the truth's sake will endure into heaven.

[1] The truth is the person of Jesus Christ and the gospel of His death, burial and resurrection.
