Who Overcomes?

1 John 5:4-5 

For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 

Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?

John Gill writes concerning this verse, “This question carries in it a strong affirmation, that no other person is the conqueror of the world:”

Our world views the victors as:

• The financially successful
• The famous individual
• The formally historical
• The philosophically skillful
• The formidable political

God’s Word emphatically denies all of this and declares that there is only one type of person who overcomes or conquers; it is the one who overcomes by faith. This faith is this further defined as believing that Jesus is the Son of God.

Jesus said these are the ones who will inherit the earth.
