Revelation 5:2
And
I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the
book, and to loose the seals thereof?
It was not just an angel, but a
strong angel who looked for one worthy to open the seals of the book. This
angel is holy in nature, heavenly in posture and fit in stature but he is not
worthy to do this function. He knows his place.
· He is strong
· He is
without sin and
· He is humble
Enough so that he refuses to do
what is not his to do.
· King Saul,
when Samuel delayed in coming, took upon himself to do what was not his right
to do.
· King Uzziah, as good a
man as he was, took upon himself that which belonged to the priest alone.
But this angel, holy as he is
and strong as he is, refuses to do what he is unworthy of.
Character is what this
demonstrates. Trust and patience upon God is what we here observe. Though the
one who is worthy is not readily apparent, though John begins to weep for the
loss, this angel does not tread on soil that doesn't belong to him.
God grant us Christians with
such character, faith and patience.
