2 Samuel 15:37 (KJV)
So Hushai David’s friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.

Hushai was a good friend to David. He had had before:

• a number of supporters, 
• many constituents and 
• thousands of citizens 

but a friend like Hushai is one in a thousand.

• He wanted to be with the king
• He instead did as the king requested 
• He placed himself in harm’s way
• He remained loyal to David in the midst of those who had turned against David 
• He succeeded in both averting enemy plans and getting word to David 
• He was not, before this time, one of those people we heard was around the king

Few of us find ourselves in that place David was so few of us have friends that must prove themselves so dramatically. All of us, however, do well if we have a friend like this.

He doesn’t have to be the one everyone knows about. He is just the one we know we can count on.
