The counsel of Gamaliel was heeded only a short period.
- Stephen was stoned not long after.
- Saul of Tarsus campaigned for the imprisonment and deaths of Christians.
- Peter and James were cast in prison where James was executed.
But for a brief moment attacks on the faith of Christianity was relaxed and the believers seized upon the opportunity. Daily in the temple and in every house they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.
