Job 17:15-16 (KJV)
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?They shall go down to the bars of the pit, when our rest together is in the dust.
Through his trials God brought Job to a place that I believe to be spiritual perfection[1], that is to the place where earthly hopes died and were entirely replaced with heavenly hope. Earthly hope is always
- Shallow
- Fleeting and
- Tends to covetousness
Heavenly hope is eternal, certain and tends to contentment.,
God was not finished with Job in this world but Job wasn’t looking for anything worldly. All of that was laid in the grave. His hope was for what awaited him. And having this hope he could more perfectly glorify God in the world.
[1] Not that Job became sinlessly perfect for no man can attain that before heaven. But if a man could attain this it would be spiritual perfection.
