1 Peter 3:8 (KJV)
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous:
This verse caught my attention for two reasons:
- First, the word “be” is found three times
- Second it is an added word all three times
Be is a verb having to do with identity, personality. It is added in this verse to aide us in seeing what is the character of the believer. (My wife described it as “a state of being verb.”) The state, the character, the personality of the Christian is:
- Of one mind
- Pitiful and
- Courteous
It must be reminded and stirred up in us because we struggle with the flesh, but it is possible for us because we possess a new quickened spirit.
