2 John 1:1-2 (KJV)
The elder unto the elect lady and her children, whom I love in the truth; and not I only, but also all they that have known the truth;For the truth’s sake, which dwelleth in us, and shall be with us for ever.

Because we are social beings we unite together; we form bonds. Those bonds may be manifold:

• Politics 
• Safety concerns 
• Special interests 
• Health issues
• Family
• Traditions
• Etc

The apostle speaks of unity around the bonds of the truth.

• He loves them in the truth
• Others love them in the truth and
• They love them for the truth

Truth is the glue that holds people of faith together like no other because truth never changes and because we will carry this truth of Jesus Christ with us into eternity.
