My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.

It may be that the most appropriate way to read this chapter is in the context of verses one and two. Interpreted this way, the instruction is to the master (teacher of God’s Word) as to how to prevent their falling under condemnation as far as is possible. James 3:1-2 A Message for the “Masters” Viewing the chapter that way the instruction would go something like this:
Conquer your mouth-Do not enter ministry hastily

-Bridle the mouth

-Steer the tongue
Vs 4-5

-Fight the fiery tongue
Vs 5-6

-Tame the words

Contain godly wisdom-A wise man is meek
