Luke 14:10-11 (KJV)
But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

Is there anyone who doesn’t want promotion? Whether it is an improved situation at home, a better paycheck at work or associations with others of influential stature we all want to improve our circumstances. About the only people who think differently are those who have lost hope that their circumstances can improve.
The question is, how we seek to create this promotion?
- The thief is merely trying to improve his circumstances
- The proud and aggressive are doing the same thing
- The person who cuts off others to get the best parking spot is just trying to improve his own circumstances.
There is another kind of promotion but it can’t be obtained through any of those methods. It is a promotion gained through humility. It is an elevation that happens through humiliation. It is giving place to another and being invited to a higher place than that.
It is greatness through service.
