1 Peter 3:1 (KJV)
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the conversation of the wives;
I am reminded that no portion of the Bible is isolated from the text.
The first word, likewise, reminds us to connect this passage with the previous.
- In 2:13 we are all to submit to the ordinances of government.
- In 2:18 servants are to submit to their masters
The Lord is given as the example of submission. He suffered wrongfully at the hands of the Jews. He bore our sins in His body and by His stripes we are healed.
Likewise ought the wife be in submission to her own husband that-if he isn’t saved, he might be won through her submissive spirit. The husband is to dwell with his wife according to knowledge that their prayers be not hindered.
- In our current age:
When everything is about fairness and authority is challenged rather than submitted to - When women want equality and men are counted as nearly useless
is it any wonder our prayers are not answered and churches are becoming impotent?
