Revelation 19:4-5 (KJV)
And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
And the four and twenty elders and the four beasts fell down and worshipped God that sat on the throne, saying, Amen; Alleluia. And a voice came out of the throne, saying, Praise our God, all ye his servants, and ye that fear him, both small and great.
God sat on the throne and a voice came out of the throne.
A natural interpretation would tell us that an inanimate throne did not speak. Either this means:
- It seemed to come from the throne but came in reality from nearby the throne or else
- The throne is not a physical structure but a living type.
I want to meditate upon the latter a moment. Could the throne upon which God sits be symbolic of those over which He reigns?
- The throne speaks in plural (our God)
- The throne claims possession of God and
- The throne urges praise upon others within and without itself.
God needs no rest as men do; yet He rested on the seventh day. God needs nowhere to sit; yet He possesses a throne. God needs no one to rule; yet He is sovereign over heaven and earth.
