Leviticus 12:8 (KJV) Obedience, Devotion and Dependence

Leviticus 12:8 (KJV)
And if she be not able to bring a lamb, then she shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons; the one for the burnt offering, and the other for a sin offering: and the priest shall make an atonement for her, and she shall be clean.
Here is a clear demonstration of the spiritual truth that obedience is better than sacrifice and to hearken than fat of rams[1]. The woman was to bring a lamb for a burnt offering and a turtle[2] or pigeon for a sin offering. But if she wasn’t able to offer a lamb, and there is no stipulation why she wouldn’t be able, then she could offer a bird in the place of the lamb.
There isn’t any comparison.
There is no way the bird could be comparable to the lamb except that both are lives and either one would be slain.
The priest was not given any parameters whereby to determine whether she be able or not. She was on her honor. The priest could not know but God would.
The sacrifices of the Old Testament are all representative. They point to the cross of Jesus. One sacrifice could do that as well as any other. What one sacrifice could not do as well as another is express obedience, devotion and dependence.
Those are the qualities to reach for in our faith.
