Romans 15:5-7 (KJV)
Now the God of patience and consolation grant you to be likeminded one toward another according to Christ Jesus:That ye may with one mind and one mouth glorify God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.Wherefore receive ye one another, as Christ also received us to the glory of God.

There is little as important as unity in a local church. I did not say in Christianity, but in a local church. Diversity must exist within the realm of Christendom because we are not robots. We have minds and reason and the responsibility to worship God according to the dictates of our own conscience.

There must be diversity within Christendom, but there must be unity within the local church. This is the place a band of believers of like faith and practice gather for mutual support and cooperative effort in the Great Commission.

We have certain keys for this unity expressed in verse five:

• Patience and
• Consolation 

God provides these to the members of the local church through prayer.

Nothing in the realm of the spiritual can be properly accomplished in the flesh. Though a fair show can be made for a time, the flesh will fall through. Only the Spirit of God can generate true patience and true consolation for He is patience and consolation. These may only be attained through prayer.

The good news is that God freely gives them to those who ask Him.
