And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly, and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, which hath given unto David a wise son over this great people.And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have considered the things which thou sentest to me for: and I will do all thy desire concerning timber of cedar, and concerning timber of fir.

When rulers change, others hold their breath. Who knows how the new leader will respond to old problems or old alliances?
Hiram reached out to Solomon and Solomon responded in kind. The Bible says Hiram:

Considered his proposal
Solomon wisely pointed out that Tyre had men with skills unmatched in Israel. Good leaders see the potential in others and delegate. Hiram appreciated that in Solomon.

Agreed to the proposal
As much as a leader may see he needs people of skill around him, he can only delegate that for which another will agree to take responsibility.

Thus the foundational work of the house of the Lord was a cooperation between Jew and Gentile. A pattern was laid which, though sometimes forgotten, would be forever true; the Gentiles have a place before the throne of God too.
I am reminded that Ezekiel will pronounce judgment on Tyre. Our relationship with God has to be maintained or else, though we once served the Lord, we may become adversaries to Him.
