1 Kings 4:5 (KJV)

I know three important things about Zabud:
He was the son of Nathan
David had a son named Nathan. Some suppose this must be the father of Zabud. I rather doubt it but expect it to be the son of the prophet Nathan who was so involved in David’s reign and figured so prominently in Solomon’s coronation.

He was a principle officer
He had a high rank in the administration of the king. Was this due to his father’s influence? His brother also served in a high-ranking position.

He was the king’s friend
People of prominence can usually hire others to occupy high offices. The world has little shortage of talented, ambitious and capable people willing to offer their services, for a price.

But a friend….
….Those cannot be bought.

Money and promise of advancement tend to make the prospects of real friendship few and far between. Many will play the part of a friend if that role has potential. The challenge is to find someone who will be a friend without hope of gain.
My guess is that Zabud was the most important man in Solomon’s administration.
A true friend is certainly the most important person to me.
