2 Chronicles 26:16 (KJV) Just Serve God

2 Chronicles 26:16 (KJV)
But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up to his destruction: for he transgressed against the LORD his God, and went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

That Uzziah was much loved and respected in his lifetime is undeniable. Isaiah 6:1
In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon His throne, high and lifted and His train filled the temple.

Isaiah loved Uzziah so much that it was not until he died that Isaiah got his eyes fixed on the Lord.

The early days of his reign were no doubt good years for Judah. But the Bible says that then God made him strong. And when he became strong his heart was lifted up.

God does elevate certain people for various purposes of service. I don’t think a man should shrink from that, but neither ought he to seek it. The correct approach is merely to serve God with a faithful heart.
  • If He elevates us that is fine, so long as we do not get prideful of it.
  • If He does not that is fine as well, since it is not the thing we sought anyway.
