2 Chronicles 36:15 (KJV) His People and His Place

2 Chronicles 36:15 (KJV)
And the LORD God of their fathers sent to them by his messengers, rising up betimes, and sending; because he had compassion on his people, and on his dwelling place:
Though the people rebelled against Him, God sent, once and again, messengers, preachers:
  • To warn
  • To instruct
  • To rebuke
  • To encourage
the people to repent and be right with Him.

The people:
  • Mocked the messengers
  • Despised His Word and
  • Misused the prophets
but the Lord sent them anyway because, the Bible says,  He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place.
It is significant that God’s Word extends the compassion of God beyond the people to a place.
We hear people these days that like to say that the church is not a place but the people. That is true but it is more than people, it is an organized and assembled people. God’s love and compassion extends beyond the individual to the community that is a church. His interest is bigger than one person. His interest is for the union to which God intended that person be joined.
