Luke 23:47 (KJV) He Glorified God

Luke 23:47 (KJV)
Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
Benson “…he glorified God — By a free confession of his persuasion of the innocence of Jesus;”
Gill “…he glorified God; by confessing that Christ was the Son of God, and declaring him an innocent person”
A person might understand this verse as being composed of two parts;
  • Glorifying God
  • Saying Jesus is a righteous man
But a better interpretation would be to understand the later as the definition of the former. He glorified God by his confession concerning Christ.
This is the way all men truly glorify God. He is glorified not in our actions, not in our attempts to minister in His name and not even in our attitude towards Him. He is glorified when we have a heart that trusts Jesus Christ for our own righteousness.
He is glorified when we accept the one gift He offers to reconcile sinners to himself; the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
