Acts 10:1 (KJV) God’s Word Is Effective

Acts 10:1 (KJV)
There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian band,
The seat of Rome was in Italy. A person might think many if not all bands of Roman soldiers might be called Italian. But Rome was such a huge empire that the truth of it was most soldiers would have been from the provinces of Rome. Only a few could claim to be Italian.
Thus Cornelius is a level above a centurion, a position already of authority; he was a centurion of an elite band. This band of soldiers could claim the closest blood to Rome.
God’s Word is effective in the most remote places and among the most primitive of peoples. But it is equally powerful in the center of civilization and among those who have access to the great resources of this world.
We should not shrink from giving it to each.
