Acts 11:17 (KJV)
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as he did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?

Notice that Acts 11:2 identifies very early a particular mentality among some of the believers calling them, “they that were of the circumcision.” As far as I know all of these believers would have been Jewish by blood. Some of them hadn’t gotten over it. In effect they withstood God by insisting on maintaining their Jewishness.

Peter recounts the story of Cornelius to the believers in Jerusalem, including those who were still “of the circumcision,” and claims that, to do otherwise than renounce his Jewish expectations and embrace fellowship with these Gentiles, would be to withstand God.

Seems to me we have a fresh wave of those that are “of the circumcision” these days. Having been made free of such expectations, they that be of the circumcision whether Jew or Gentile by birth, chain themselves voluntarily to those same Old Testament rules that bound the Jews two thousand years ago.

Like Paul I marvel that they are so soon removed from the faith and the liberty that faith provides.
