Acts 19:1 A Foundational Work

Acts 19:1 (KJV)
And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,

Paul had written to the church at Corinth concerning Ephesus and told them, “A great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.”[1]

What an amazing ministry Paul had there.
  • He corrected some errant believers
  • He spoke in the synagogue three months
  • He disputed in the school of Tyrannus for two years
  • He was used of God to accomplish special miracles
  • He was a contrast of godliness against the seven sons of Sceva
  • He saw those with curious arts converted and turned from idolatry
Mightily grew the Word of God and prevailed there.

Though there were terrible enemies, like Demetrius and the silversmiths, in Ephesus there was no doubt God had done a great work there.

No wonder Ephesus became a foundational church to not just Paul’s ministry but to the whole region.

[1]1 Corinthians 16:8-9 (KJV)
But I will tarry at Ephesus until Pentecost.
For a great door and effectual is opened unto me, and there are many adversaries.
