Acts 27:31 (KJV)
Paul said to the centurion and to the soldiers, Except these abide in the ship, ye cannot be saved.
That Paul was a prisoner there is no doubt. When the soldiers' counsel was to kill the prisoners so none could escape, the centurion kept them from it for the very purpose of saving Paul. Still, even as a prisoner, Paul found favor with the centurion. A Christian's circumstances may not be grand but they can be better if we maintain a proper testimony.
Interestingly, however, when the storm hit, Paul could almost be considered the leader. He is "barking" orders that even the captain and the centurion obeyed.
Here's the thing, no matter what a person's position in life is, when death seems imminent the one who has peace with God, the one who has a connection to him; that is the one everyone will look to. Christianity is a help in a world of peace but it is essential in a world of death. If your relationship with God gives you rest in those times, you will make a difference when making a difference is the most vital.
