Psalms 119:136 (KJV) It Makes Us Weep

Psalms 119:136 (KJV)
Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.
There are a couple of ways to interpret this verse and each has merit.
The one is the distress of the Psalmist because God is not glorified in these who disobey the Law
Every believer ought to be distressed that God does not receive the glory due His name. When a person
  • Ignores the Word of God,
  • Denies the Word of God or
  • Willfully disobeys the Word of God
they are at enmity with God and they are robbing from God the honor, glory, majesty and worship He deserves.
The other is the affliction he experienced in his personal life because of disobedience to God’s law
Whenever a person flagrantly disobeys the Bible he or she creates a situation whereby a believer might be pained.
  • It could be direct violence such as Cain did to Abel
  • It could be indirect such as the trials of Daniel when judgment came to Jerusalem.
He was not directly responsible for the judgment but he was directly impacted by it.
Whichever the interpretation one chooses (I see a place for both of them) the fact is that Christians long that others would learn the Word of God and keep it.
