Isaiah 60:19 (KJV)
The sun shall be no more thy light by day; neither for brightness shall the moon give light unto thee: but the LORD shall be unto thee an everlasting light, and thy God thy glory.

It makes sense that we should take care of our world. It’s not much different than the home we live in. If we are to enjoy it, it must be cleaned, maintained and, from time to time repaired. The earth is about the same. In order to enjoy it we need to keep it clean, we need to maintain things that are renewable such as forests and waterways. Once in awhile we need to adjust our actions for the most efficient and long-term benefit of natural resources. I have no problem there. 

God’s Word gives us call to care for the earth. Israel, you might recall, was given instructions on the care of their land. And, when Judah was captured by Babylon, the term of the sentence was seventy years. One year for each year they had not given the land rest. 

That said, the world has lost its sense of propriety in this area. Global scientists have lost all common sense when measuring our earth’s resources. And then there are the “mother earthers.” Only this week I read a woman extolling the wonders of the cattail and praising “Our Mother” for this bountiful treasure. Baloney!

One of God’s promises for eternity is that, one day, the sun and moon will no longer give light. Our light will be from the original source, God Himself. What a glorious day that will be. But I can hear someone complaining. They so enjoy false light, created light, alternative light, that they cannot imagine enjoying genuine light. 

I see in this a representation of many of our troubles. We have grown so accustomed to things that are created or, worse, man-made that we practically refuse what is original, authentic, and from above. 

Namely, God.
