The Bible I currently use for my daily visits with God is a King James Version 400th anniversary edition published by Local Church Publishers. It is essentially a Scofield Reference Bible with the notes removed. It does retain the chapter and division headings of the Scofield Bible. The Scofield heading for Genesis 20 reads, “Abraham’s lapse at Gerar.” A lapse is a fall.
Abraham was as given to fall as anyone else
He was all human. He had a sin nature. He loved God, worshipped God, lived and served and honored God. But he was capable of falling and did fall from time to time.

Abraham fell in a similar manner as in Egypt
We may learn from this to be especially aware of those sins that easily beset us. If we can do it once, we could easily do it again. Beware.

Abraham lapsed into this sin just after receiving a promise from God and just before God answered that promise
It may have been related to his disappointment that despite his prayers, Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed. It may have been related to his heartbreak over Lot’s sin. Whatever was the catalyst, Abraham lapsed into sin just before God gave him the desired promise.

Abraham’s sin directly threatened the answer to Gods promise
The promise involved Sarah and it was Sarah he put at risk.

We sin. We are prone to the same sins again and again. And, when we give into those sins, we risk what God has planned for us.
