Genesis 22:11 (KJV)

And the angel of the LORD called unto him out of heaven, and said, Abraham, Abraham: and he said, Here am I.

How we read a thing matters to the message of the thing. When the angel of the Lord called out of heaven and said “Abraham, Abraham,” those words should be read with: 

• Intensity
• Urgency and 
• Passion 

It’s not panic because God would not panic. Even in the most urgent of circumstances God has things in control. 

The urgency of the text does not reflect upon God, but it does tell us something about Abraham. It tells us that he was serious about the offering. This was no half hearted show. While I am in agreement that Abraham could offer his son because he knew that God would somehow give him back his son, Abraham was not play acting as he went through the motions of the sacrifice. He was fully prepared and committed to complete his mission. He wasn’t 

• Dragging his feet
• Delaying his work
• Looking around for a way out 

He wasn’t wasting time hoping for God to change His mind before the deed was done. Abraham was so committed that the angel of the Lord has to get his attention. He had to be stopped in his tracks. 

How committed are we to that which God has called us?
