1 Timothy 1:1 (KJV)
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Saviour, and Lord Jesus Christ, which is our hope;
Since Christ is our hope, by definition, it is impossible for a Christian to be without hope.
- Christ never leaves us, never forsakes is
- All the promises in Christ are eternal, yea, and amen
This is not to say a Christian can never feel hopeless. It is only to say that such a feeling is false. It is not true. It is a failure of the flesh to register what is fact. It’s like a fuel gauge that has quit functioning – it reads empty even when the tank is full.
The means to restore hope is not through activity then. It is through fellowship. Since Christ is our hope the way to regain hopefulness is by drawing close to Jesus. To walk with Him in the inner man, to commune with Him, to know Him closely, these are the keys to hope.
Paul said, 2 Timothy 1:12
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Even in the midst of suffering and upcoming execution, he had confidence and hope because:
- He knew whom he had believed and
- He was persuaded He is able
The same will give hope to us in any circumstance of life.
