2 Timothy 1:7-8 (KJV)
For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;

There is an apparent correlation between fear and shame. Because God does not give us the spirit of fear, we do not have to be ashamed. 

The concept of shame comes up three times in the chapter. Because God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind 

• Paul was not ashamed of what he suffered, 
• Onesiphorus was not ashamed of what Paul suffered and 
• Timothy had no reason to be ashamed of what he suffered 

Shame then is a consequence of fear and fear a consequence of an unstable mind. To get hold of the power, love and mind of God is to shake loose of fear and the shame it causes.
