2 Timothy 4:5-6 (KJV)
But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of thy ministry.
For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.

A transition was about to take place. The Apostle Paul was about to hand the baton of the faith to the next generation.
He had carefully taught Timothy
And it was not in the classroom but in the laboratory of the local church ministry. Timothy had done difficult things asked him of Paul in critical days.

He had demonstrated faith by example
Timothy witnessed time and again the Apostle’s courage, faithfulness and discipline.

He had provided him these written materials
If Timothy strayed from the faith, it would be his own doing. Paul had performed his duty to God and to train Timothy.

I note that the transition was not sudden. Even after saying “the time of my departure is at hand” Paul said, “Do thy diligence to come shortly unto me.” There is much too much impatience in the younger generation. To wait at the feet of the passing generation until GOD is through with them; to serve them, support them and lift them as Joshua did Moses, is a matter of great character.
