Hebrews 11:11 (KJV) It's a Faith Thing

Hebrews 11:11 (KJV)
Through faith also Sara herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she was past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised.

There is a mystical element to Christian life that is frequently denied or else ignored in our age. Years ago I heard a teacher say that faith is “10% inspiration and 90% perspiration.” Effectively making it a work of the flesh. More recently I heard a teacher deny that the Word of God could not be understood without the Holy Spirit. He said anyone could understand the Bible so long as they knew grammar. The world has had expert grammarians pour over the Bible with college courses such as “The Bible as English.” They are ever learning the Bible, but they do not come to the truth.

This passage, it seems to me, reinforces the truth that faith is a spiritual, God empowered thing. Sarah received strength to conceive not through:
  • Effort
  • Hard work and
  • Perspiration
but by faith.

It was a work of God that worked in her body.
