Numbers 18:6 (KJV) God Gives to Us to Give to God

Numbers 18:6 (KJV)

And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.

The passage speaks of the firstborn, every one of which, was to be God’s. 

• The firstborn of their clean beasts
• The firstborn of their unclean beasts and even
• The firstborn of their own children

But God made a provision for Israel. He said He had taken from among the Jews one tribe, the Levites, and had given them to Israel to give to God instead of their firstborn children. They would not be required to give their firstborn in service to the Lord or to redeem them out of the service of the Lord. They were given the Levites instead to give to God for service. 

This is how we ought to think of all that we have:

• Our health
• Our intellect
• Our opportunities and how we use them to gain
• Our income and
• Our possessions 

None of this is ours on our own. We have them because God gave them to us. But He did not give them to us for us. He gave them to us for Him. Thinking in these terms, the tithe and much more than the tithe is no big gift to give to God. We are merely giving to Him what He gave to us to give to Him. 

In eternity, those believers who have been faithful, even in a little, will be given crowns, rewards for faithful service. We have these so that we may cast them once again at His feet. He will give to us what we will them give to Him.
