Hebrews 5:9 (KJV) Our Perfect High Priest

Hebrews 5:9 (KJV)
And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;

The advantage and disadvantage of the high priests was that they were taken from among men.
  • The advantage was that they could have compassion on sinners because they too were sinners
  • The disadvantage was that, because they were sinners, they could only offer compassion. They needed a Saviour as well as any other

Enter Jesus Christ.
  • Eternal
  • Sinless
  • Deity

  • Jesus was called by His Father to His office
  • Jesus suffered in the flesh as men do
  • Jesus called upon His Father in prayer as men do
  • Jesus learned obedience as men do

Thus, being made perfect in manliness, He could be our perfect High Priest.
  • He is perfectly man
  • He is perfectly able to execute His office
  • He is perfectly able to have compassion upon us
  • He is perfectly obedience
  • He is perfectly prayerful
  • He is perfectly sinless so that
  • He was able once for all, to offer the perfect sacrifice for our sins
