Matthew 17:21 (KJV)
Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.

This kind… I am of the opinion that there are some who make the focus of spiritual warfare too spectacular. They see passages such as this and develop extra-biblical doctrine and practice so that they too can experience spectacular deliverances. 

As I see it, there are just three strongly demonic demonstrations in man’s history:

• In Genesis six, just before the flood
• In the Gospels, just before the Cross and
• In the Revelation, just before the end of this world

In each case, the devil knew he had but a short season to work. They were extreme measures for what the devil saw as extreme times. 

This is not to say that there is no demonic activity in these days. The devil is very active in:

• Destroying families, 
• Developing false prophets, teachers churches and antichrist’s, and 
• Dominating politics and politicians. 

We err when we look for demonic activity in “the lunatics” but fail to see it in the agendas of evil.
