2 Chronicles 25:2 (KJV)
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, but not with a perfect heart.
Since “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God”[1] The perfect heart would not be sinlessness. Amaziah did everything right, but his heart was far from God. It revealed itself when:
He took the idols from Edom
Though he had obeyed in admirable ways before and during this contest, he turned from God very soon after. Perhaps it was because of the price of obedience. Israel had attacked his land.

He held a grudge and eventually took action against his enemy
It serves very little purpose to be angry and bitter against those who have hurt you. These are things we should leave in the hands of God to address in His way and time.

He rebuked the prophet for telling him God’s message
The prophet backed off with one last pronouncement; judgment was coming.

There is a difference between obeying God because He is God and obeying Him because He can bless you. Amaziah was willing to obey when He believed God would reward him for it. When it cost him something, he grew bitter and rebellious.
His heart was not perfect.
