Job 38:1-3 (KJV)
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.
It seems to me that the common understanding is that, when God speaks, He ignores Job’s friends and begins immediately to rebuke Job and charge him to answer for his words. It occurs to me that instead, God may have addressed Job, the one who feared God and eschewed evil, concerning those friends of his, who “darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge.”
The conversation between Job and the Lord is not in response to Job’s speaking words without knowledge, but of his friends. This would explain why Job prayed for them.
God’s interest is in His own. Those people who have rejected Him over religion, humanism, education, science falsely so-called, or sin have been given over to their lusts.
God’s design, His desire is to strengthen the believers and then use them to reach the unbeliever.
The Lord and Job converse, Job is strengthened and his friends are prayed for.
