Psalms 11:3 (KJV) What Can We Do?

Psalms 11:3 (KJV)
If the foundations be destroyed, what can the righteous do?

I do not, for one moment, believe that this passage is an expression of fatalism, negativity or hopelessness. Our God is never out of sorts, never off His throne, never surprised, outwitted or outmatched. 

There are a couple of ways this passage has been understood. 
One is to identify the righteous as God Himself. 
Truly, He is the only righteous one. When the foundations are destroyed what does God do? “he sits in the heavens, he beholds all the actions of the wicked, he distinguishes the righteous from them and rains a violent storm of wrath upon them”[1]

Another is to identify the righteous as David, the believer
In this case, there are some things we might do in a time when the foundations we have always leaned on have been taken from us:

• We should go to the throne of grace, 
• We should endeavor to build one another upon their most holy faith,
• We should constantly affirm our faith even while others deny it
• We should contend earnestly for it, and 
• We should stand fast in it 

There we have it, a plan of action in such a time as this. While we trust that God is aware and at work in our current trouble,

• Pray
• Strengthen others 
• Preach the truth
• Contend for that truth and
• Stand fast regardless of the troubles
