Psalms 35:3 (KJV) What Else Could He Do?

Psalms 35:3 (KJV)
Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.
In a difficult time, when his enemies seemed to overwhelm him, the Psalmist pled for God to:
  • Plead with them that strive against him
  • Fight against them that fought against him
  • Stand up to be his help
  • Stop the way against them that persecuted him
He was obviously desperate. What else could he do but call out to the Lord?
And then he prayed, “Say unto my soul, I am thy salvation.”
This phrase reminds me of Romans 8:16 (KJV)
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Romans 8:16 appears to me to be the answer to the prayer of Psalms 35:3. God’s Spirit is the one and only means of assurance of salvation. He has said to your spirit that you are saved or else you are not.
When in times of difficulty and doubt the place to seek assurance is:
  • In prayer to God
  • Through the Word of God and
  • Believing the witness of the Spirit of God
