2 Timothy 3:1 (KJV)
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
When I became a believer, back in the late seventies, passages like this one were the talk of the church. The songs, the Christian films, the sermon series, it seemed, were all surrounded around this subject. It seems like the urgency of the last days has waned over the years I have been a Christian. Churches have become more application-oriented, help oriented, comfort and encouragement oriented, counsel oriented. For good or for bad, though we would all still agree that these are the last days, that hasn’t been the hot topic of preaching.
Perhaps that’ll change.
I am not sure what will be the eventual outcome of this virus and the subsequent shut down of everything, including churches.
- I’ve been reminded that Baptist churches historically never sought government permission to do what we do. We were almost always the target of governments because we preached separation of church and state.
- I’ve been reminded why, when I began as a Christian, we didn’t pass out directories of church members.
- I’ve been reminded that the course of this world is toward a one-world, anti-God system. And
I have seen how quickly such a thing can come to pass.
Whether these are the final hours of the last days, I cannot say. It is possible we will pull out of this tailspin into catastrophe to an amazing revival. I pray so.
What I do think is worth noting, and bears no speculation, is that this chapter, that begins with a warning of perilous times, ends with an assurance that every Word of Scripture is God breathed and profitable.[1]
We need to read, study, and meditate upon it today like never before!

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
