Hebrews 13:3 (KJV)
Remember them that are in bonds, as bound with them; and them which suffer adversity, as being yourselves also in the body.

I maintain that the penman of The Book of Hebrews is Apostle Paul. One of the chief pieces of evidence of that is the ending. It is Paul’s “signature” to close in grace. There is also the reference to Italy in the final verse. Paul, we know, was imprisoned in Rome until his execution. 

But the subscription to the letter says it was “Written to the Hebrews from Italy, by Timothy.”  I do not believe this means Timothy wrote the letter but that he was the one who carried and delivered it. This being the case, verse 3 has a direct relationship to Paul who, for reasons it is not my purpose to discuss just now, chose to keep his identity discreet. He was in bonds. He wished for their prayers on his behalf. 

For the first time in my life Christian, in the United States may face bonds of their own. It will not likely be the majority of us, but it could certainly be some of us. We’ve faced some troubles in past years over our Christian schools and homes for the wayward. That was limited to just a select handful of believers and it could be avoided by simply not being involved in those ministries. Today the target is our right to assemble and the Supreme Court just issued an opinion that, in effect, made the First Amendment of none effect. Unless something changes real drastically and real soon, we could find Christians in bond for nothing more than assembling together. 

If and when that happens, remembering one another in prayer will be critical.
